Many music videos are a collection of rapid fire images. THE HUNGER is a music video with a story. You'll find this story tightly woven into the fabric of the music video... underlying the theme and concept... at the
very core of the dream images, the ancient Egyptian scenery, the underworld, and into the afterlife...

The Hunger Story Outline

We see the lead singer's character (JOSHUA) lying on the street looking face up at the clouds. He is dying - blood pools from behind his head. The camera zooms in on one of his open eyes. We see a swirl of cloud patterns reflected from the sky in his eye. They whirl into fiery hues - and abruptly, we drop down through his eye, down a vortex of rushing light and clouds of energy into our next scene: A replay of what just happened to him moments before.

The replay through his eye: Joshua sees his ex-girlfriend (MUSE) in the window of an upscale café and goes inside to greet her. As he leans to kiss her, she moves her head away, avoiding his kiss. There are two place settings at the table and a handsome young man dressed in a fine suit (WEALTHY FINANCIER) returns and sits down next to her, taking her hand into his. An argument breaks out between the wealthy financier and Joshua and his embarrassed ex-girlfriend/muse. The handsome new man and Joshua face off. This being a posh and classy café with CHIC PATRONS, an ELEGANT HOSTESS comes over and tries to quell the confrontation. Finally the investor takes the muse by the hand and leads her out of the café. Silhouetted in the flare of sunlight, she looks back at Joshua for a moment, and it is obvious she is torn by feelings for her new man and feelings she still has for her ex. Joshua looks after them depressed and sad, watching them leave together. He then gazes idly over a variety of Egyptian icons and winged images adorning the walls of the classy café (the Egyptian art deco will leave an imprint in his mind through the rest of the music video).

He gets up and leaves, walks out through the glass doors of the café into the glare of sunlight, staring down at the sidewalk - walks out into the street, still depressed and not paying much attention.

For a fleeting moment, he happens to look up and sees a car coming toward him. The wealthy financier is driving the car, talking on his cell phone. Joshua's ex-girlfriend sits in the passenger seat gazing out the window, looking sad and distracted.

She turns her head and for a split second, sees Joshua standing in the street. She makes eye contact with him in that instant - and frantically tries to get the financier's attention, but it is too late. They accidentally hit her ex-boyfriend with the car. He falls back onto the street. She jumps out of the car frantic - overcome with shock and grief and cradles his head. We come full circle to where we started at the opening of the music video, Joshua lying on the street face up, gazing at the sky.

Again, we see close-up the swirl of burning clouds in his eye - then drop down through his eye, down through a long dark snaking tunnel to the next scene. Joshua's character is floating down the Nile, winding past great pyramids and magnificent statues in ancient Egypt. The sky is on fire with fast moving clouds. (Note: These scenes of Egypt could very well have been embedded into Joshua's character's mind from the Egyptian icons and artwork in the café, like a dream imprint).

Joshua sings of a "hunger" that burns the soul as he passes a backdrop of temples, walks through great columned corridors and into a long and deep burial chamber lit by the flicker or torches. There he encounters the god of death, ANUBIS, standing tall before him. Joshua turns and runs, stumbling upon an EGYPTIAN QUEEN. She moves back startled - puzzled by the sight of Joshua. Then intrigued, she dances around him, taunting, mesmerizing him. She smiles and for a fleeting moment, she transforms into his ex-girlfriend, the muse, before becoming the Egyptian Queen again. He continues to watch fascinated as the queen dances around him.

Anubis reappears and pushes Joshua backwards down a dark vault. He falls through what seems like an endless tunnel but lands in a dark, underworld café. Egyptian icons and paintings adorn the walls. VAMPIRE CREATURES (representing Joshua's inner demons) sit in the shadows at tables draped in red linen. The vampire creatures stare menacingly at Joshua. Each one gets up and circles him - preying upon him dangerously close.

Joshua glances away from the vampires, and eyes an ethereally lit stage within the underworld café. The Egyptian Queen is dancing on it, gesturing him to come to her.

The LEAD VAMPIRE pushes Joshua backwards and he falls through another vault, down a long dark shaft, emerging into a large, circular terminus. Overhead is a huge latticework rotunda, and through it we see twilight. His character is now suspended between two worlds, life and death, day and night… He turns and is standing on the porch of an old time train station. A solemn train car looms before him in the darkness. He turns again…

We see Joshua one more time - in yet a third café. This one is bright, colorful, bohemian, artsy, neon-lit. He stands before his ex-girlfriend sitting at a table alone, her head in her hands. She cannot see him as he watches and sings to her. He reaches out in an attempt to comfort her - tries to touch her cheek - but his hand passes through her. He gazes down at her a final time, dressed in a long black trench coat, and then begins to fade away. She looks up, still unable to see him, but seemingly aware something or someone was present. Her eyes are wet as she gazes into neon lights in the window beyond where Joshua had stood.

Joshua's character merges into light and we come full circle to him lying on the street, face up, gazing at the clouds, his face frozen in death, but wearing a slight smile. A final burst of white light as we pass down through his eye and into roiling clouds… then fade to black as the song comes to an end.
